How to Make an Herbal Tincture

A tincture is a concentrated liquid infusion made with high-proof alcohol. It is fat-free, keeps for a very long time, and is easy to add to drinks, gummies, and more.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup high-proof alcohol (at least 150 proof, such as Everclear)
  • ¼ to 1 oz decarbed herbs

Instructions

  1. Decarb your herbs first. See our decarb guide for settings.
  2. Pour the alcohol over the decarbed herbs in the strainer basket and close the lid.
  3. Run the Tincture setting. On the IB Mini, that is 120°F (49°C) for 4 hours. Keep the heat low, since high heat evaporates the alcohol.
  4. When the cycle ends, gently press the herbs to get every drop.
  5. Pour into dark glass dropper bottles. A 4 oz amber bottle holds about ½ cup.

Safety Tips

  • High-proof alcohol is flammable. Keep the machine away from open flames and hot stovetops, and stay nearby while it runs.
  • Never use a higher temperature than your manual recommends for tinctures.
Potency Notes
Active ingredient per serving = (Active ingredient per tsp × Teaspoons used) ÷ Servings

Storage: Store in dark glass bottles in a cool, dry place or the refrigerator. Tinctures keep for a very long time. Label clearly and keep out of reach of children and pets.
