Homemade infused treats look exactly like regular brownies, gummies and chocolate. That's what makes them fun to make, and it's also why storing them safely matters. Here's how to keep your edibles fresh, clearly labeled and out of reach of kids, pets and guests.
Why safe storage matters
Kids and pets can't tell an infused gummy from a regular one, and a curious guest might not either. Accidental exposures are almost always about access: treats left on a counter, in a lunchbox-style container, or in the fridge next to regular snacks. A few simple habits remove that risk.
1. Lock it up
A locked container is the single most effective step. Store infused treats in a box with a combination lock or key, and keep it somewhere high or out of sight. Locks matter most if you have kids at home, have visiting grandkids, or share a house with roommates.

Our lockable bamboo storage box has a combination lock, odor control and a slide-out tray. Just $35.99 when you add it to any infuser order.

- Write "INFUSED" in large letters on every container.
- Add the date it was made and the estimated strength per piece. Our strength guide shows you how to work it out.
- Label your infused butter and oil too, not just the finished treats.
3. Keep infused and regular food separate
Never store infused treats in the same tin, bag or shelf as regular snacks. Use a dedicated container, and if it has to go in the fridge, put it in its own sealed box on a separate shelf.
4. Store for freshness
| Treat | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Gummies | Fridge, airtight | Up to 2 weeks |
| Chocolate, truffles, peanut butter cups | Fridge, airtight | Up to 2 weeks |
| Brownies, cookies, bars | Room temp, airtight | Up to 1 week (freeze for longer) |
| Infused butter | Fridge / freezer | 2 weeks / up to 6 months |
| Infused coconut oil | Cool, dark place or fridge | Several months |
Keep everything away from heat and direct sunlight, which can break down both flavor and strength.
5. Portion before you store
Cut brownies and bars into even servings before storing, so nobody has to guess how much a "piece" is. Small, even portions are safer and easier to dose.
6. Have a plan if something goes wrong
If a child or pet gets into infused food, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222 in the US) or your vet right away, and seek emergency care if symptoms are severe.
