How to Make an Herbal Tincture
A tincture is a concentrated liquid infusion made with high-proof alcohol. It is fat-free, keeps for a very long time, and is easy to add to drinks, gummies, and more.
Ingredients
- 1 cup high-proof alcohol (at least 150 proof, such as Everclear)
- ¼ to 1 oz decarbed herbs
Instructions
- Decarb your herbs first. See our decarb guide for settings.
- Pour the alcohol over the decarbed herbs in the strainer basket and close the lid.
- Run the Tincture setting. On the IB Mini, that is 120°F (49°C) for 4 hours. Keep the heat low, since high heat evaporates the alcohol.
- When the cycle ends, gently press the herbs to get every drop.
- Pour into dark glass dropper bottles. A 4 oz amber bottle holds about ½ cup.
Safety Tips
- High-proof alcohol is flammable. Keep the machine away from open flames and hot stovetops, and stay nearby while it runs.
- Never use a higher temperature than your manual recommends for tinctures.
